Dear Maya

Dear Maya,

I need to say thank you to you.  Last night I was reading Elizabeth Lesser’s book, Broken Open.  I am really getting so much out of it, loving it if that is possible right now.  Anyway, last night I started a new section in which Lesser writes eloquently about “visitations” from people who have passed.  She tells stories from her personal life and from others, about opening to and even inviting lost ones to visit.  I read with fascination and curiosity.  Keep in mind that more than a few people have reported “sightings” of you my dear!  And a few people have commented to me about how present you are still,  so, well you know what is coming I guess.

So, I decided I would open up to it.  As I lay in bed last night, I said “Maya, please come visit me if you can.  I miss you so and I love you.”  I fell asleep and slept through the night.  This morning, I awoke and my face hurt.  I noticed it right away.  It was the hurt of too much smiling.  I was smiling ear to ear as I opened my eyes. And you were there, looking down on me, smiling back.

Thanks for stopping by Maya!  I love you.

  1. I am so happy for you Mathew.

I deeply treasure the visitations I have received from loved ones and the intimacy, comfort and knowledge they bring. To my understanding this validates the words of the sages and saints; we are not alone, we are not the body, and death, in its implications of finality, simply does not exist.

  2. Taking this journey with you, Mathew. Thank you for everything you share and for your deep perception and insights.
    Love,
    Rabbi Jonathan
